Geek Gear - Episode #1 : My Top 5 Mac OS X applications

Welcome to Geek Gear, I'm Kylie Simpson and this is Episode #1.

This show we are looking at my top 5 Mac OS X applications, which you can download for free.
Heading up the list is Itunes.

bulletpnt #5 - iTunes :

it

Apple's iTunes software has advanced quite a way since it's humble start in 2001, and now is the number 1 online music retailer. Allowing you to download songs, tv programs. Rent movies, buy games for your iPod, buy audio books, and ofcourse, access hundreds of Podcasts. This is certainly a must for every mac user, combining ease of use and all the functions you'd ever need.

bulletpnt #4 - Adium :

adium

Adium is a free multi-client instant messenger service, that allows you access all the major instant messenger services such as AIM and MSN. With a huge community and a whole range of themes and skins to customise the application, it really stands out from the crowd, like mac software should.

bulletpnt #3 - Flip4Mac :

f4m

A long chunk of the multi-media you can download online is still only avaliable in WMV (Windows Media Videos.)
Flip4mac is a video codec for quicktime that allows you to watch WMV right in quicktime. Perfect for anyone switching from Microsoft, which unfortunately for Microsoft is alot of us.

bulletpnt #2 - Handbrake :

hand

For all of you who are wondering how on earth you gt your DVD's onto your Ipod. Handbrake is your solution. Yet another fabulous free download for your Mac, this lil' diddy coverts your DVD's into a format your Ipod can handle, once you've converted the file, just click and drag (yes you heard me click and drag) the file into Itunes and next time you sync it will be right there ready to play on your Ipod.

But right there at number one is....... (Drum Roll)

bulletpnt #1 - NeoOffice :

neo

NeoOffice is multi-platform and multi-lingual office suite and an open source project. As Steve Jobs would say "Now what is this? I don't know but it works". For anyone else that didn't quite get that, NeoOffice is a free download for the Mac OS X and Microsoft that is a basic version of the large Microsoft Office family applications. It is an enhanced version of Open Office. You can do most of what you can do on Microsoft Office but it is far less advanced, so if you just need to do a bit of word processing or the odd spreadshee, this could be your answer.

So there you have it five fantastic applications free to download and enhance your Mac usage, just click the logo's above to download.
